Tokujiro Namikoshi

Namikoshi Tokujiro (Japanese浪 越 徳 治郎; born November 3, 1905 in Kagawa Prefecture, † 25 September 2000) is the founder of Shiatsu therapy, the finger pressure massage.

Life

His first massage he was a child his mother, who suffered from rheumatism. In 1925 he opened the first in Muroran Shiatsu Therapy Studio 1933 and went to Tokyo. In 1940 he founded the Nihon Shiatsu Gakuin (日本 指 圧 学院) and 1946 the Association Nihon Shiatsu Kyōkai (日本 指 圧 协会), the first he became president.

He became known and his method, as in 1954 Marilyn Monroe, with Joe DiMaggio spent their honeymoon in Japan at that time, treated several times due to stomach cramps with shiatsu massages. Later he was also the " personal physician, " the Prime Minister Ohira Masayoshi.

About his students, especially Shizuto Masunaga, who developed his own style, the Zen Shiatsu, Shiatsu, the spread over the whole world. His own style is primarily practiced in Japan.

In 1983 he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, 4th Class.

He died on 25 September 2000 of pneumonia.
