Tokyo Godfathers

Tokyo Godfathers (東京 ゴッドファーザーズJapanese, Tōkyō goddofāzāzu ) is an anime director Satoshi Kon and animated by Studio Madhouse. As a template for the third film of the director was John Ford's Western Footprints in the Sand (English Original title: 3 Godfathers ) from the year 1948.

Action

The alcoholic gin, the former drag queen Hana and Miyuki runaway living on the streets of Tokyo and of what will bear the waste of the Nobel Shinjuku district. On Christmas Eve they found on one of these tours Streif garbage bags behind an abandoned girls in infancy. They set out to find the parents, during which they are confronted with their own past.

Production and publication

The film was produced and directed by Satoshi Kon 2001-2003 by studio Madhouse. The character design designed Kenichi Konishi and Satoshi Kon, the artistic director took over Nobutaka Ike and the music was composed by Keiichi Suzuki.

The anime was released in Japan in 2003 at Sony Pictures. This was followed by translations including English, French, Spanish and Russian. In February 2005, the film was released by Columbia TriStar in Germany.

Reception

The journal AnimaniA praised the " lovingly detailed and realistic backgrounds " and the charm of the " enchanting Christmas fairy tale". The animations are excellent, it is dominated by warm and dark colors. The plot is entertaining and full of unlikely twists, show it a "realistic portrait of a portion of Japanese everyday life". The " trendy and lively orchestral sounds " of the soundtrack fit to the respective scenes well. The German synchronization is technically sound, but could not really convince Kai Taschner in his role as Hana. In the top video news of the Children and Youth Film Centre states: " Tokyo Godfathers ' is a catchy animated film of emotionally moving, but also offers fast-paced action sequences. [ ... ] Emotions and actions connects Satoshi Kon in this anime to cinematic expression, which immerse the viewer into an extraordinary, moving and thrilling magical story. "
