The University of Agriculture, Tokyo (in Japanese东京 农业 大学, Tōkyō nōgyō daigaku, in short: Nōdai (农大) or nōdai Tōkyō (东京 农大) ) is a private university in Japan. The main campus is located in Setagaya, Tokyo. The University is, engl. Tokyo University of Agriculture ( TUA ) and should not be confused with the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology ( TUAT ).

History

The University has its origins in 1891, founded by Enomoto Takeaki Agriculture course of Ikuei School of Tokugawa Ikueikai Foundation (徳 川 育 英 会 育 英 黉 农业 科, Tokugawa ikueikai Ikuei -kō nōgyō - ka). The agricultural course was in 1893 an independent school - the School of Agriculture Tokyo. In 1901 it was renamed the Private Higher Agricultural School Tokyo, and in 1903 recognized as a specialist school. In 1911 she was in Private Agricultural University Tokyo (私立 东京 农业 大学, Shiritsu Tōkyō nōgyō daigaku ) renamed. In 1925, she received the university status and changed its name to University of Agriculture, Tokyo. She was the first private University of Agriculture in Japan.

She lost in 1945 by the Pacific War the school buildings ( in Tokiwamatsu, Shibuya ), and retired in 1946 in today's Setagaya campus. It opened in 1960 a new farm in Atsugi ( Kanagawa Prefecture), and in 1989 the Ohotsuku campus in Abashiri ( Hokkaido Prefecture ). 1998 pulled the agricultural faculty at the Atsugi campus.
