Tom Buhrow

Thomas " Tom" Buhrow ( born September 29, 1958 in Troisdorf ) is a German journalist. He's since July 1, 2013 Director of the West German Radio (WDR).

Biography

Tom Buhrow grew up in Siegburg and attended the workshop for Anno Gymnasium. From 1974 to 1976 he was an exchange student at a high school in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. After graduation in 1978 he worked for the local newsroom Siegburg of the Bonn General-Anzeiger and studied at the University of Bonn, History, Political Science and Cultural Studies Rheinische. After graduating in 1984 (MA) 1985, he began an internship at the WDR. From 1986 he was an editor, reporter and managing editor in the current hour and West 3 News, starting in 1992 an editor and reporter at the news.

On 1 September 2006 he succeeded by Ulrich Wickert as a moderator in to the issues of the day. He finished the show often with the words. " Those were the days issues of today Tomorrow is a new day. "

For the radio station SWR3 he was in the series Tim asks Tom to hear. There he explained on the phone the "little Tim " in simple terms complex issues from the issues of the day.

In a guest appearance in Kiel scene Borowski and the free case ( episode 846, Original Air Date October 14, 2012 ) Tom Buhrow played himself as Tagesthemen moderator.

On May 29, 2013 Tom Buhrow was elected director of the West German Radio. He received 41 of the 47 votes of the Broadcasting Council and took effect on 1 July 2013, the successor to the resigning for health reasons Monika Piel, which had been elected in 2012 to another six years in office. With an annual salary of 367,232.00 euros, he is considered among the top earners director.
