Tom Corbett

Thomas W. "Tom" Corbett ( born June 17, 1949 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American politician of the Republican Party and, since January 18, 2011 Governor of the State of Pennsylvania.

Life

Tom Corbett studied education at Lebanon Valley College and was then for a year as a teacher. Then he began to study law at St. Mary's University Law School. From 1971 to 1984 he served in the 28th Infantry Division of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. In 1983, Corbett worked for several years in the private sector as a lawyer. In 1988 he was appointed to supervise the judicial review of the Allegheny County Jail. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed by U.S. President George Bush to the Federal Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He held until August 1993 this office. After Corbett was re- worked as a lawyer and opened his own law firm in 1997. In 2004, he won election to the Attorney General of Pennsylvania vs. Jim Eisenhower. In 2008 he was re-elected.

On November 2, 2010 Corbett won in the gubernatorial elections in Pennsylvania with 54.5 percent against Dan Onorato. He then was able to start in January of the following year, the succession of Democrat Ed Rendell, the constitutionally no longer allowed to run for office.

Corbett is married and has two children.
