Tomasz Lipiec

Wojciech Tomasz Lipiec ( born May 10, 1971 in Warsaw) is a Polish sports tourers, journalist and politician. From 31 August 2005 to 9 July 2007, he was Minister of Sports in the cabinet of Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz and Jarosław Kaczyński. In 2012, he was sentenced to three years in prison for corruption.

Life

Lipiec he was a walker at the World Race Walking Cup in 1993, 1997 and 1999, at the World Championships in Athletics 1997. 1992, 1996 and 1999, he was Polish champion in walking. Furthermore, Tomasz Lipiec took part in the Summer Olympic Games in 2000 as walkers. 1993 Lipiec has been banned for doping for four years. Later, the decision was reversed because the drug test was not performed correctly. Therefore, he was from 1994 to 1995 for doping inactive.

He studied management and marketing at the Warsaw School of Economics ( SzkoĹ Główna Handlowa, SGH ) and then worked in a marketing agency for sports. He also wrote for a supplement of Gazeta Wyborcza, worked on the radio Dla Ciebie and in the Department of Fitness and Sports. 2001 to 2003 he worked at the Polish Sports Association. From 2003 he was director of the Warsaw Centre for sport and recreation. In February 2005 he became a member of the Board of the Polish Olympic Committee. August 31, 2005 Lipiec was sports minister. On 9 July 2007 Lipiec submitted his resignation. This was preceded by allegations of corruption. On 25 October 2007 he was arrested at the request of the Central Anticorruption Bureau ( Biuro Centralne Antykorupcyjne ). After paying a deposit of 80,000 zloty Lipiec could leave the prison on 18 July 2008. In April 2009, the trial began against him. Two years later, on 17 April 2012 he was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison and a ban on the exercise of public office for ten years.

Tomasz Lipiec is married and has two children.
