Tomasz Strzembosz

Tomasz Strzembosz ( born September 11, 1930 in Warsaw, † 16 October 2004 in Warsaw) was a Polish historian.

Life and work

In the People's Republic of Poland, he was one of the few historians who have not bowed the state doctrine. Already in the 1950s, he was chased by Ministerstwo Bezpieczeństwa Publicznego ( Ministry of Public Security ) and is unable to obtain his master's degree in history. This he received only 1959. His habilitation in 1982 was recognized only in 1989.

He sat apart especially with the Polish resistance during the Second World War, in particular the resistance in occupied Warsaw and the anti-Soviet partisans in occupied eastern Poland.

After the turn he was in 1991 " Associate Professor " In 1991, " Professor " of the Polish Academy of Sciences ( PAN) and was a lecturer at the Catholic University of Lublin. In 1997 he went into early retirement. His history is attributed to a patriotic motive.
