Tommaso Temanza

Tommaso Temanza (* March 9, 1705, † June 14, 1789 ) was an architect, hydraulic engineer and historian. He was the nephew of the architect Giovanni Scalfarottos and was buried in the church he built Santa Maria Maddalena.

Works

His first work in 1748 was the oratory of Santa Margherita, at Via San Francesco, Padua.

In 1760 he built the neoclassical church of Santa Maria Maddalena in Cannaregio, reminiscent of the Pantheon in Rome, and to the church built by Scalfarotto San Simeone Piccolo. After his death, the construction of Gian Antonio Selva his student, architect of the Teatro la Fenice was completed.

In 1770 he built on the basis of Andrea Palladio tempietto Barbaro a round chapel for the Villa Contarini in Piazzola sul Brenta.

He built the Casino in the garden of the Palazzo degli Armeni Zenobio . As Supreme Water Protection Supervisor ( Proto all acque ) headed Temanza 1779/80 the extension of the Riva degli Schiavoni. In 1762 he wrote a biography of Andrea Palladio: Vita di Andrea Palladio. In 1778 he wrote biographies of Venice Architects: Vite dei più celebri architetti e scrittori veneziani.
