Tommy Olivencia

Tommy Olivencia ( born May 15, 1938 in Santurce, Puerto Rico, † September 23, 2006 in San Juan, Puerto Rico), whose real name is Ángel Tomás Olivencia Pagán, was a Puerto rikanischer salsa musician. Tommy Olivencia coined the musical style of Salsa Boricua and the Música Tropical and influenced in his 30 -year-long effect time artists such as Marvin Santiago, Paquito Guzmán, Lalo Rodríguez, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Frankie Ruiz and Hector Tricoche.

Life

Tommy Olivencia began as a singer at the age of 16 years. Later he played the trumpet and took over the management of different combos. His first Orquester in the 1960s was called Tommy Olivencia y La Orquesta de Primerisima Puerto Rico. Since 1978 he has worked with four trumpeters and two trombonists that an idiosyncratic style of music along with melodic components and Swing, created. Olivencia produced for various mostly own record labels such as Tioly, Inca Records, Capitol / Emi Latin or TH ( TopHits ) Records. Since 1990, Tommy Olivencia and his Orquester were among the most popular salsa groups Puerto Rico. His first singers were Chamaco Ramírez and Paquito Guzmán, of which Guzmán later began a career as a solo artist. Shortly after the release of the song " Alive and Kicking" Chamaco Ramírez died after drug abuse.

From 1975 to 1976 Paquito Guzmán was the second singer in the band Tommy Olivencia y su Combo was the mid-1980s with one of the trendsetters for the music style of Salsa Romantica Salsa or Erótica. The music of Tommy Olivencia was a landmark for many talented salsa artists. One of the greatest successes of Olivencia were songs like " Plante Bandera ", " El Negro Chombo ", " Evelio Y La Rumba ", " Lobo domesticado ", " Lapiz de Carmin ", " Viajera ", " Primero Fui Yo ", "No Tires La Primera Piedra " and others, which were often later was covered by singers and groups. After a severe diabetes Tommy Olivencia died in 2006 of heart failure.
