Tommy Robredo

Tommy Robredo Garcés ( born May 1, 1982 in Hostalric, Girona ) is a Spanish tennis player.

Career

When he was just a year old, Robredo got from his parents already paid his first tennis racket. He played every Sunday with his father, a tennis coach. Four years later the family moved to Olot. There, the father was manager of a sports club and Robredo began to exercise regularly. In 1996 he moved into the performance center Centre d' Alt Rendiment in Sant Cugat del Vallès, near Barcelona.

Since 1998 he has been a professional and has now attracted twelve tournaments in singles, namely twice the tournament in Sopot (2001 and 2007), in Barcelona ( 2004), the Masters Tournament in Hamburg ( 2006), Båstad (2006 and 2008), Metz 2007 Costa do Sauipe and Buenos Aires in 2009, Santiago de Chile in 2011 and Casablanca and Umag in 2013. Moreover, he was seven times in the finals of a tournament, most recently in June 2008 in Warsaw. The victory in Metz was particularly impressive, as Robredo is indeed on hard courts grew up, had his successes so far, however, recorded primarily on clay courts. Even more impressive was his comeback in the 2013 season, when he was able to fight back after a thigh injury, including surgery in 2012 by World No. 471 in the Top 20 and won two tournaments.

In the doubles competition, he was able to record five wins in ten finals: in each case on the side of Rafael Nadal, he won both the tournament in Chennai (2004 ) and the Masters tournament in Monte Carlo (2008 ) and together with Marcel Granollers the tournament in Costa do Sauipe 2009 and 2011, Auckland. In 2013 he won at the side of Marcelo Melo the tournament of Brisbane.

In 2004 he was with the Spanish team Davis Cup winner, for which the team was also selected to the team of the year. He could also twice won the Hopman Cup for Spain, in 2002 with Arantxa Sánchez Vicario and 2010. Alongside María José Martínez Sánchez

The greatest success of his career was the participation in the Masters Cup in Shanghai in 2006, for which he had qualified sixth in the world rankings. In the group stage, he failed, however, and could not qualify for the semifinals.

He got his name because his father was a fan of The Who and their rock opera Tommy.
