Tonsil

Tonsils or tonsils are lymphoid organs in the area of oral cavity and pharynx. They form the lymphatic pharyngeal ring in its entirety. When one speaks of almonds, one usually means the tonsils ( palatine tonsil ), which lie at the back end of the palate between the two palatal arch ( arcus palatoglossus and palatopharyngeal arch ).

Tonsils are the first stop of the body, are localized to the bacteria, and thus function as a detector of harmful organisms.

Construction

Almonds are demarcated by connective tissue collections of lymph nodules ( follicles ) directly under the epithelium of the mucosa. Proliferations ( hyperplasia ) can affect all tonsils. In the pharyngeal tonsil, they are called adenoids ( " polyps " ) and are usually surgically removed ( adenoidectomy ).
