Tony Ally

Pietro Antonio "Tony" Ally, born Ali ( born August 17, 1973 in Luton) is a former British diver. He started for the club City of Sheffield Diving Club in the disciplines 3m springboard and with Mark Shipman in the 3 -meter synchronized diving. Ally was in 1999 the first British European champion in the water jumping, he participated in three Olympic Games.

Ally's first Olympic participation was in 1996 in Atlanta. From the 3 -meter board, he reached the semi-final 18th place in Sydney in 2000 he reached the 3 -meter board the finals and was twelfth in the newly introduced synchronized diving he was with Shipman seventh. In Athens in 2004, he reached in the individual from the 3 -meter board in the semi-finals and was ranked 15th with Shipman in synchronized competition in fifth place.

His greatest sporting success came Ally at the European Championships in Istanbul in 1999. From the 3 -meter board, he became European Champion and won becoming the first Briton a gold medal at the European Championships. With Shipman he also won bronze in synchronized diving. Three more medals get him at the Commonwealth Games 1998 in Kuala Lumpur bronze of the 3 -meter board in 2002 in Manchester in the same competition in 2006 and silver in Melbourne again silver, this time with Shipman in the 3 -meter synchronized diving. The best finish at a World Cup reached Ally, 2001 in Fukuoka. He was with Shipman fourth in the 3 -meter synchronized diving and eighth in the individual 3 -meter board.

Ally won at the age of twelve years, his first national title. In 1998 he suffered in a motorcycle accident serious injury on his right arm and had to take a nearly year-long break from competition.

He finished his career in 2006 in the water jumping and then sought a career as a professional boxer.
