Tony Fernandes

Francis Anthony "Tony" Fernandes, CBE ( born 1964 in Kuala Lumpur ) is a Malaysian entrepreneur.

He is, inter alia, founder of Tune Air Sdn. Bhd. , Which produced the first low-cost airline AirAsia Malaysia with the name. He is also the founder and team manager of the racing team Caterham F1 Team, who is eligible to start in Formula 1 since the 2010 season. In addition, Fernandes is owner since April 2011 the English car manufacturer Caterham Cars, and since August 2011 the main shareholder of English football club Queens Park Rangers.

Personal / Honours

  • The Forbes Magazine Asia valued Fernandes 2011 on a fortune of 615 million U.S. dollars; so that he was ranked 15 on the list of 40 richest Malaysians.
  • The same magazine has named the Entrepreneur 2010 "Asia Businessman of the Year"
  • The French government appointed Fernandes 2010 Chevalier of the Legion of Honor
  • 2011 gave the British Queen for his services to the Malaysian relations in business and education between Malaysia and the United Kingdom, the Order " Commander of the British Empire" ( CBE)
