Tony Hymas
Anthony " Tony" Hymas ( born September 23, 1943) is a British composer and pianist (keyboards, synthesizer), which has emerged both in the field of jazz, as well as in rock music.
Hymas began as a chorister in Exeter Cathedral; then he studied piano at the Royal Academy of Music with Harold Rubens. In London he found soon after the jazz scene. In 1964, he belonged to a quintet of Henry Lowther and Lyn Dobson, but also to the band by Don Brown. The next few years he worked as a pianist and composer of the Ballet Rambert. In 1972 he began working as a film and Fernsekomponist; First he wrote the theme for the drawing animated series Mr. Men During this time he also worked for Johnny Dankworth, Cleo Laine and Stan Sulzmann; also he accompanied Jane Manning and Frank Sinatra.
1976 brought him Jack Bruce in his band, with whom he also went on an international tour; In 1978 he toured with Jeff Beck and Stanley Clarke in Japan, which resulted in a longer collaboration with Beck, for whom he wrote many songs and partly due to the recording of the album There and Back (1980 ), Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop (1989; Grammy Award 1990), Who Else (1998) was involved. With Jim Diamond and Simon Phillips in 1982, he founded the band Ph.D..
In 1984, he turned back to the Jazz; he played in a trio of Tony Coe, and with the Hughie Burns and Terry Bozzio he also made the Lonely Bears from 1991 to 1994. Besides his Indians album Oyate and his Symphony originated in A flat, the London Symphony Orchestra in 1995 aufführte. In the next few years he also worked for Sam Rivers ( Eight Day Journal ) and Michel Portal ( Minneapolis ). With François Corneloup, Jef Lee Johnson and David King in 2003 founded the band Ursus Minor, with albums such as Zugzwang (2003), Coup de sang ( 2006) and I Will Not Take But for an Answer (2010) emerged. He also worked with John Taylor ( Aspects of Paragonne ), Ray Russell ( Ready or Not, A Table Near the Band ), John McLaughlin, Bruno Chevillon, Airto and Evan Parker.
