Top Topham

Antony "Top" Topham ( born July 3, 1947 in Southall, Middlesex, England) is an English guitarist, best known as a founding member of the Yardbirds.

Life

1963 entered Topham with Chris Dreja, Railway Hotel in Norbiton, where traditional jazz was played, but could occur in the intervals of other musicians. There they met Keith Relf, Paul Samwell -Smith and Jim McCarty. They decided a band called The Yardbirds to set up. Two weeks later they had their first gig as the opening act of Cyril Davies Allstars. Later, they were given the opportunity to Crawdaddy Club act as the Rolling Stones played as the opening act for Bo Diddley and the club needed a new belt. Since the band is mutated to professional musicians, Topham had to get off and was replaced by Eric Clapton. Topham was at this time only fifteen years, and his parents wanted him to end the Epsom Art School. Topham did not regret this step but, as he would probably leave the group, as she turned away from blues and sought commercial success.

After the completion of art school, he played at Winston G and the Wicked (later renamed The Fox ), who played one of the first bands in the UK psychedelic rock. After this group he played with Duster Bennett, with whom he had already played at the School of Art in several bands. This brought him into contact with producer Mike Vernon and the Blue Horizon label, the leading Blue Label in the UK at the end of the 1960s and beginning of the 1970s. Here he played as a session musician to Peter Green. For Blue Horizon he took an instrumental album, on which involves many famous London blues musicians, and together with Duster Bennett he wanted to start a blues band, but fell seriously ill. After his recovery he returned to art, but was convinced by Jim McCarty in 1988, again playing the guitar. In 1990 he left the band again but to turn to the acoustic blues.

In the 2000s he joined the blues scene over and over again irregularly, including guest appearances in the current version of the Yardbirds. Topham After Chris Dreja fell ill in 2013 occurred after almost exactly 50 years to the Yardbirds back as a permanent member. Its main activity has remained that of an art dealer.
