Torah ark
The ark (Hebrew Aron ha - Qodesch, " the holy shrine " ) is the shrine in which the Torah scrolls are kept in the synagogue. This shrine is on the front wall of the synagogue, which is directed against Jerusalem, and with a kind of embroidered curtain ( Parochet ) covered.
On fast day Tisha B'Av the Aron ha - Qodesch is not covered as a sign of mourning with a curtain and remains open.
In synagogues, it is customary during the ten days of repentance between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, replace the Parochet against a white one.
