Torbjørn Løkken

Torbjørn Løkken ( born June 28, 1963 in Biri ) is a former Norwegian Nordic skier.

Career

Loekken, who started for Biri IL, announced on December 15, 1984 in Planica his debut in the World Cup Nordic Combined. With the eighth place he landed came in straight in the top ten. A few days later, he narrowly missed out on his first podium in fourth in St. Moritz. Also in January in Leningrad, he landed at this place. His first season in 1984/85 he thus ended in eighth place in the World Cup overall standings.

In the Norwegian Championships in 1985 in Tromsø, he won behind Geir Andersen and Hallstein Bøgseth the bronze medal in singles. In the 1985/86 season Løkken a weak start to the 15th place in Tarvisio. In the two other competitions which he denied he did not come in the top ten and finished the season after only three World Cup on the 27th place in the overall standings.

The most successful season in his athletic career denied Løkken with the season 1986 / 87th On 13 December 1986 he started in Canmore with his first World Cup victory in the season. In Reit im Winkl he reached second place in January another podium place, before he celebrated his second victory in Autrans few days later. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1987 in Oberstdorf, he won the gold medal in singles at the normal hill and a silver medal with the team. After the World Cup he scored his third World Cup victory in Falun. Also in the Norwegian Championship 1987 in Kongsberg was first successfully and won his first and only title in the singles before Arne Orderløkken and Hallstein Bøgseth. He joined the World Cup season as overall leader. Then he was honored in the same year in his home country with the Aftenposten gold medal. In addition, he received official congratulations to the Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland.

In the 1987/88 season Løkken started with second place in Bad Goisern, before he celebrated his fourth World Cup victory in January in St. Moritz. At the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988, he landed in a single in sixth place, a few days after the team competition only just missed with Trond Arne Bredesen and Hallstein Bøgseth fourth medal. Even before the Games, he won the combination competition at Holmenkollen.

In the Norwegian Championships in 1988 in Skien, he won the individual and to the team silver. On March 18, 1988, he won his fifth and last World Cup in Oslo. After he paused for almost two years in the wake of the World Cup, he started in December 1989, again in St. Moritz and won in ninth again seven World Cup points.

After the end of his active career Løkken got problems with alcohol and drugs. In an interview with Dagbladet 2007, he announced that he was 15 years addictive. In addition to the alcohol addiction he took pills and heroin to himself.
