TORCH complex

STORK ( in the English language TORCH ) is an acronym used in obstetrics. It describes the major infectious diseases and their pathogens that are transmitted in utero at an expectant mother to the fetus and can bring serious consequences such as a miscarriage or malformations under certain circumstances.

STORK is:

  • S = syphilis
  • T = toxoplasmosis
  • O = Other (English: other), such as parvovirus B19, hepatitis C virus, varicella- zoster virus, coxsackievirus or Listeriosis
  • R = rubella
  • C = cytomegalovirus, chlamydia
  • H = herpes simplex virus
  • Disease in obstetrics and gynecology
