Torkham ( Pashto: طورخم ) is a city in eastern Afghanistan. There the border town, which lies directly in the Nangarhar province on the eastern border of the country to Pakistan. On the other side of the border is the area of the Khyber Agency, a tribal area of ​​Pakistan's Federally, one of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA ).

Location

Torkham is located on Highway 1, one of Afghanistan's most thoroughfares. This connects the town to the west of Jalalabad and Kabul. On the other side of the border is five kilometers from the Pakistan Landi Kotal. Torkham is connected via the Pakistani N-5 National Highway, which is part of the Grand Trunk Road to Peshawar to Karachi. Due to the transport links and the location near the Khyber Pass Torkham is the most important border town between Afghanistan and Pakistan towards Central Asia.
