Toronto Marlboros

The Toronto Marlboros were a Canadian ice hockey team from Toronto, Ontario. The team played from 1904 to 1989, among others, in one of the three highest Canadian Junior Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League ( OHL ).

History

The Toronto Marlboros were founded in 1904 as ice hockey department of the previous year incurred Toronto Marlborough Athletic Club. In 1927, the team of Conn Smythe was purchased, who made it the farm team of his other clubs, the Toronto Maple Leafs. From this time included the Marlboros and the Maple Leafs always shared an owner, the actual relationship between the two teams ended in 1967 after only seniors team was withdrawn as a partner.

Stafford Smythe, Conn Smythe's son founded, 1961, the Metro Junior A League as a competitor to the Ontario Hockey Association ( OHA ), whereupon the Marlboros were joined this. The league has already been resolved after two years of existence again, so that the team returned from Toronto back to the OHA before it was 1980 Founding member of the Ontario Hockey League, where they played the next nine years before the franchise due to financial reasons in 1989 after was Hamilton, Ontario relocated, where it under the name of the Dukes of Hamilton is then active in the OHL.

The Toronto Marlboros were one of the best Canadian junior teams ever won with seven Memorial Cups and won ten J. Ross Robertson Cup. In the Memorial Cup victories in 1955 and 1956 Hall of Famer Turk Broda was as head coach behind the gang. In addition to the Marlboros in the OHA and OHL were active, there were several other teams with the same name, including the Allan Cup winners of 1950.
