Torsåker, Hofors

Torsåker is a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish province of Gävleborg County, in the historical province of Gastrikland.

Location

Torsåker belongs to the municipality Hofors. The village is located about 40 km as the crow west-southwest of the provincial capital of Gävle and 10 kilometers east of the community center Hofors. Torsåker is the second largest town of the community according to its central place Hofors.

The town has a station on the railway from Mjölby about Örebro to Storvik ( kilometer 311) stambanan as an original part of the Norra on this section and completed a total of 1900. The course plays an important role especially in the north-south freight at long-range circumvention of Stockholm, which is why it is called goods arc through Bergslagen (Swedish Godsstråket genome Bergslagen ), but also has passenger services.

West Torsåker is bypassed by the National Highway 68, just north of the national route 80 Gävle - Falun - Rättvik connects and extends southward over Avesta, Fagersta and Lindenberg to Örebro.

History

The local church is a 1200 built building back, but was rebuilt and expanded significantly from 1754 to 1758. In the church today can be seen around 1000, two originating from the area rune stones out of time.

From the second half of the 14th century Torsåker center was a Bergslag as Gästriklands or Torsåkers Bergslag known mining area. The privileges certificate was issued in 1374 by Albrecht von Mecklenburg, who was also King of Sweden from 1364 to 1389. In 1542 there were in Torsåker two ironworks. Mining and Metallurgy experienced its decline during the 19th century, when the mostly small farms of the area of foreign competitors succumbed. The last forge in Torsåker graduated in 1890. During this time, sawmills took over the role as a major economic factor.

Torsåker was until 1971 an independent country community when it was connected to Hofors.
