Tórsvøllur

Tórsvøllur [ tɔuɻʂ ˑ vœdlʊɹ ], literally meaning " Thor's Place ", is the national stadium of the Faroe Islands in the capital Tórshavn. With 6,000 seats, it is also the largest stadium in the country.

The football stadium was inaugurated in 2000. This home games of the Faroese National Team will be played, the first game was held before the official opening on 18 August 1999. By 2005, the finals were held at the National Cup in this venue. A club stadium is Tórsvøllur not, however. The capital clubs HB Tórshavn B36 Tórshavn play next door at Gundadalur Stadium on artificial turf. Nevertheless Tórsvøllur is used by other clubs as the venue for European matches.

On 2 September 2011 the first international match was played in the Faroe Islands under floodlights against Italy. An illuminance of 1,400 lux, the cost of the entire system amounted to approximately 16.5 million DKK.

Besides Tórsvøllur and Gundadalur there is the Svangaskarð Stadium in Toftir, which is also approved by the UEFA for his natural turf and the bleachers.
