It has 3,740 inhabitants and an area of 30.8 km ². Tortolita is situated north of Tucson on the border of Pinal County. Nearby is the Catalina State Park and La Cholla Airport.

Noteworthy is the Set up in 1986 by a voter decision Tortolita Mountain Park. It is a natural park that is part of a system of such parks for purposes of nature conservation in Pima County.
