The Torysa ( Törz German, Hungarian Tarca ) is a 129 km long river in eastern Slovakia.

It is the longest tributary of the Hornád which drains via the Tisza to the Danube.

The river rises five kilometers north-west of Torysky at the foot of the 1224 m Javorina ( German knee flexors ), an elevation in the mountains Levočské ( Levočské Hills ).

The partially coiled upper reaches first flows to the east. From Lipany the valley becomes wider and turns to the southeast. The Torysa takes on the way from Lipany to Sabinov to many small mountain streams from the northerly Čergov Mountain Range and the south -lying mountains Bachureň. The stretch of river from Velky Saris Sabinov over to Prešov is already characterized by gentler slopes, the valley is farmed intensively and afforestation resigns.

In Prešov, the third largest Slovak city that Torysa takes on the coming from the north river flows Sekčov and from now on to the estuary to the south. Near the municipality Obišovce approaching the rivers Hornád and Torysa at 2500 meters, but take off again and flow to 25 kilometers parallel to each other before the Torysa flows south of the village Nižná Hutka in the Hornád. The last 40 km of the now meandering river course of Torysa are already in a flat area that opens to the Košice basin kotlina. The catchment area of ​​1349 km ² is Torysa.
