The North Sea resort of Tossens is a municipality in the district of Weser Butjadingen march in Lower Saxony.

Geography

Tossens is on the Butjadingen peninsula directly on the Innenjade opposite the city of Wilhelmshaven. The place is located around 20 kilometers from Nordenham.

History

Since 1420 there is a first chapel in Tossens. After the final defeat of Butjadinger Friesen 1514 Tossens belonged to the later Grand Duchy of Oldenburg. 1523, the town was a parish of its own, expanding the church in 1635. 1892 Tossens received the title of the North Sea resort awarded. The community was founded in 1933 Tossens incorporated together with Eckwarden, long Warden, Burhave, Waddens and Stollhamm in the new community Burhave, which was renamed in 1936 in Butjadingen. In 1948, the independent municipality Langwarden based in Tossens, the village belonged to the newly formed state of Lower Saxony.
