Totnes on the map of Suriname

Totnes is the main town and a resort in the district Coronie, in the Republic of Suriname.

The areas immediately adjacent to Totnes Friendship is the seat of administration and the District Commissioner (DC). The town has 1684 inhabitants and lies on the only connecting road - the so-called east -west connection - between the capital of Suriname, Paramaribo and the border town to Guyana, Nieuw Nickerie -. Totnes has a guest house, a market, schools, churches and a connecting channel to the Atlantic Ocean.

It owes its name, as well as various other places in Coronie, English and Scottish planters, here from the time of the British Protectorate (1799-1802) founded plantations.

In Sranan Totnes Frimangron is called, which loosely translated means: base / bottom of the freed from slavery man.
