Touriga Francesa

Touriga Franca is an indigenous red grape from Portugal. Recommended is their cultivation in the regions of Trás -os- Montes and Beira Litoral. Admitted she is also in the regions of Douro, Minho, Ribatejo, Oeste and Madeira. It is also used for the Port wine. With an area under vines of approximately 7,440 hectares, it takes in Rebsortenspiegel Portugal a rank 5.

The variety is indeed often set still under its old name Touriga Francesca, do so but no longer officially (for example on labels ) called. The French wine lobby Portugal had sued to enjoin this name and won the case in 2002.

The variety produces dark-colored red wines, but do not reach the quality of the wines of the variety Touriga Nacional. However, it is more profitable. Touriga Franca is a variety of the noble vine (Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphrodite flowers and is thus self- fruiting. When the wine-growing economic disadvantage is avoided, no return delivered to have male plants grow.
