Tovuz, Azerbaijan
Tovuz is a city in Azerbaijan. It is the capital of the district Tovuz. The city has about 13,000 inhabitants in 2008 and was initially founded as a grape field.
History
The city was founded in 1912 by German settlers and was named grape field. During the Second World War, the Germans were driven under Stalin and renamed the city in Tovuz.
Culture
In the city of Azerbaijani musicians Hussein Bozalganli was born. Whose birthplace is now a museum. There is also a newly built mosque, a stadium, a town hall and a cinema.
Traffic
Through the city's railroad in the Azərbaycan Dövlət Dəmir Yolu from Tbilisi to Baku runs, as well as the highway M 1 ( European route 60). Tovuz is connected to the bus network in the country.
