Toward Point

Toward Point is a cape on the Kyles of Bute. It is located in the south of Scotland's Cowal Peninsula and thus belongs administratively to the Unitary Authority Argyll and Bute. Directly north of the headland is the small village of Toward. The nearest town is ten kilometers north Dunoon. Along with the Cape Bogany Point on the opposite island of Bute marked Point Toward the eastern end of the Kyles of Bute to their confluence in the Firth of Clyde. There is a lighthouse built in 1812 at the tip of the cape.

To Toward Point numerous shipwrecks are recorded. The youngest disaster occurred in December 1912 as the Janet & Sarah at Toward Point ran aground and had to be abandoned. Other ships that crashed at Toward Point, include the Ardenlea on their way from Greenock to Cardiff and the upcoming Lisbon Vespers on their way to Glasgow, both of which were lost in December 1854.
