Trachselwald

Trachsel forest is a municipality in the administrative district of Emmental in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

The municipality is located östlichlich the Emme and south of Green in the lower Emmental and mainly comprises the valley Heimisbach with the places Kramershaus and Thal. The neighboring communities in the north clockwise are starting Lutzelfluh, Sumiswald, Trub, Langnau im Emmental, Lauperswil and Rüderswil. The village Trachsel forest itself is close to the western boundary of the municipality.

History

The name of the village means " Drechsler -Wald " and is first mentioned in 1131. The village around the castle Trachsel forest was initially the Barons of Trachsel forest, then those which finally assumed by Ruti bei Lyssach and Sumiswald, until the reign was sold in 1408 to the city of Bern. The castle became the bailiwick.

1574 the village was destroyed by fire. As part of the Swiss peasant war a meeting took place on April 3, 1653 held at the inn fir, in which the peasant leader Niklaus Leuenberger had its first public appearance. On June 19, he was arrested and imprisoned in the dungeon of the castle until his execution on August 27.

The baroque building of the Reformed Church Trachselwald was in 1685 according to plans by Abraham Dünz.
