Tramezzino

Tramezzini (plural of tramezzino, diminutive of Italian tramezzo, " between", " Middle" ) are occupied slices of white bread, which has its origins in Turin, but are widespread throughout Italy. In many cases, they can now be found also in Austria, Switzerland and Germany.

The white bread used is the toast similar, but fine-pored, soft and without bark. Tramezzini be cut into triangles, each with a slice down the lining and a slice above. Tramezzini are also sometimes available in rolls, wherein the filling is rolled. The variations of the coating are almost unlimited and range from salads with mayonnaise on ham and cheese to cooked mushrooms, seafood and vegetables.

Tramezzini are sold in Italy as a small snack in bars and diners, but are also sometimes available as appetizers in restaurants. Normally they are offered chilled prefabricated, some varieties are toasted on request prior to consumption.

Tramezzini are a variant of sandwiches.
