History

Genesis and development up to the Second World War

The Brandenburg tram was opened on 1 October 1897 as a horse-drawn tram. The lines were labeled with colors and the gauge was set at 1000 mm. After the city took over the company on April 1, 1910 the conversion was simultaneously decided to electrical operation and opened on 1 April 1911, a year later. In addition to extending the train station and old town for Plane Bridge in April 1911, the overland route was on Christmas Eve 1912 Plaue opened ( " Yellow Line ").

GDR era

On July 20, 1950, work began on the extension of Streckenastes from the old station to the steelworks. On 1 October 1952, the entire route was opened up to its present endpoint at the Quenzbrücke.

On the renewal of the fleet of types LOWA and Gotha were obtained from 1958 new wagons. A total of up to 1959 12 railcars and 22 trailers were purchased. In contrast to almost all other plants in the GDR Brandenburg ( Havel ) possessed exclusively on two-axle vehicles of type T -57, T59 - E, T - 61E, T-62 and T2D with matching sidecar.

In 1970, adjust the tram service within ten years, the city of Brandenburg. Due to the energy crisis, this decision was never implemented. So the first KT4D railcar was purchased in 1979, the same year the construction of the line to Hohenstücken began. According to the further expansion plans of residential complexes, the last stop Hohenstücken North was dimensioned with six Aufstellgleisen.

Preparatory work for a connection of the branch after Hohenstücken at the height of the curve at Tschirchdamm to Gorden Avenue have already been made. This link, however, was never realized later.

Nachwendezeit

The operation was gradually modernized under reconstruction of the railway tracks in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1995, four tramcars of type MGT6D (No. 100-103 ) were procured in two-way design. Even before that had been in Brandenburg an der Havel to the guest and also in regular service two MGT6D (No. 500-501 ) in Halle / Saale. Since the procurement of MGT6D the city was too expensive, they let ten Tatra KT4 expand a low-floor center section KTNF6. The Gotha and LOWA tracks disappeared in the 1990s out of the line of traffic, also three bi-directional GT4 were taken from Freiburg's traffic AG, which were mainly used on routes to and Plaue Kirchmöser. In addition, the vehicles always came in construction machinery used. In 1997, the 100th anniversary of the tram operation was committed and dedicated to the new depot in the Upstallstraße on 16 September 2000.

On 28 September 2002, the 5.6 km long overland transit route Anton Saefkow Avenue - Plaue - Kirchmöser - West set for bridge damage. The line 1 now ends at the stop Anton Saefkow Avenue. Following the abolition of the overland section after Plaue and Kirchmöser the GT4 -ZR were parked at the old depot in the Bauhofstraße and scrapped soon after.

In 2005, the city of Brandenburg cut its payments for transport companies Brandenburg GmbH to two million euros. This measure vehicles and staff were cut and thinned out the schedule. Especially on weekends, at tram and bus lines often. On Sundays and public holidays, two tram lines (line 1 and 2) for the first time in the history of the tram interconnected, and as a line 1/2 ( Quenzbrücke - Anton Saefkow Avenue) conducted in 60 -minute intervals. The line 1/2 do not operate while the main railway station, this is approached by the tram line 6 in 30 -minute intervals.

In 2007, the 110th anniversary of the company was committed. With uncertain future of the tram in the longer term the city of Brandenburg plans of receipt by 2020. In spring 2012, a start was made to make the new station forecourt in Brandenburg. Here, to May, the tram track systems were thoroughly overhauled.

In 2011, the Neuendorferstraße was renewed and 2012-2013 the Nicolaiplatz was rebuilt. Both construction led to the route of line 1 over the Neuendorferstraße, Lucke Straße and Bauhofstraße could not be traversed by trams. For this reason, the line sailed 1 from 7 March to 14 August 2011, and June 18, 2012 to November 2, 2013 in downtown instead of the routes at the line 2, which stops Lucke Berger Street and Canal Street were not from the tram served.

On 4 January 2014, two prototypes of the Bogestra series of type MGT6D (No. 500-501 ) from Halle / Saale were bought by the VBBR which lingered for testing purposes in Brandenburg in 1995. As part of the new acquisition of two low-floor trams will be sold the KT4D No. 173 and 180, causing the car park of the future tram Brandenburg has a 100 % low-floor portion.
