Tran Anh Hung

Trần Anh Hùng ( born December 23, 1962 in Da Nang, Vietnam ) is a French film director and screenwriter of Vietnamese origin.

Biography

After the Communist takeover of Saigon in 1975 he and his family emigrated to France. From 1985 to 1987 he attended the film school École Louis Lumière in Paris. After he realized hatt 1989 with La Femme mariée de Nam Xuong and 1991 with La Pierre de l' attente two short films, his first feature film came in 1993 with The Scent of Green Papaya out. The film begins in Saigon in 1951 and describes over ten years in the life of an initially poor girl who is employed in the household of a pianist, this marries and experiences a social advancement. The Scent of Green Papaya has been a success for the director; at the International Film Festival in Cannes, he was awarded the Golden Camera for the best debut film in 1994 with a César for the " best first ". In addition, the film was nominated for an Academy Award as " Best Foreign Language Film ".

While The Scent of Green Papaya was formed exclusively in a French studio, he went for his next film Cyclo to Ho Chi Minh City (former Saigon ) to shoot there. In this work, a man stands in the foreground, when his rickshaw and thus his livelihood is stolen, a criminal organization joins. At the International Film Festival in Venice in 1995, this film was awarded the Golden Lion, the main prize of the festival, and the FIPRESCI Prize.

The third feature film under his direction was published in 2000 with a summer in Hanoi, the three sisters and their love lives are in the foreground. This movie was released in the international competition of the International Film Festival of Cannes.

2009, the thriller I Come with the Rain was released. While the previous movies of the director were all turned in Vietnamese language and play in Vietnam, this is his first English-language film. The film was, however, like all the previous movies trans financed with French money. A year later he filmed with Norwegian Wood ( International Title: Norwegian Wood), the novel by Haruki Murakami with Ken'ichi Matsuyama, Rinko Kikuchi and Kiko Mizuhara in the lead roles. This earned him a 2010 a renewed invitation to compete in the Venice Film Festival.

Trần is married to Trần Nu Yên Khe, in The Scent of Green Papaya the lead role and in his other films had acting roles.
