Tranquillo Barnetta (born 22 May 1985 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss football player, but he has also got the Italian passport. Both parents are of Italian origin.

Association

Barnetta learned to play football at small St. Gallen Quartier FC Rotmonten. His talent was recognized early, so that he soon moved to FC St. Gallen. There he began his pro career in 2002 and won already as a 17 -year-old a regular place.

National

Barnetta went through all Swiss junior national teams. In 2002 he won the U -17 European championship titles and took part in the 2004 Under-21 European Championship in Germany.

He was appointed in early June 2004 as a replacement for the injured Johann Lonfat in the squad of the Swiss national team for the Euro 2004, came in the tournament itself, but not used.
