Trans-Sumatran Highway

The Trans - Sumatra Highway ( Indonesian: Jalan Raya Lintas Sumatera to German. Trans - Sumatra highway The shape Trans - Sumatran Highway is in use) is a 2500 km long road across the Indonesian island of Sumatra.

The street is often known as Asian Highway AH25. Linking the local single tracks into one continuous road was begun in the late 1970s and ended in the early 1980s. Although some course sections as in Medan, are expanded to 4 lanes, it relates primarily to a simple two -lane country road, in tight switchbacks working in mountainous areas in the air.

The road connects Banda Aceh on the northern tip of Sumatra on Medan, Prapat, Bukittinggi, Sibolga, Padang, Lubuk Linggau, Martapura and Bandar Lampung and Kotabumi with Bakauheni at the southern tip. Beyond the Sunda Strait, the traffic route continues in Merak on the neighboring island of Java.

For the distance of Bakauheni to Padang is expected for a bus ride with a duration of 36 hours, but it can also take up to 48 hours.

The construction has the development of Sumatra ahead to making a previously inaccessible areas reachable. This allows now also the exploitation and destruction of previously untouched nature. Forest fires, logging and agricultural use more and more replace the original rainforest.
