Transfesa

The company Transportes Especiales Ferroviarios ( Transfesa ) is a Spanish transport and logistics company based in Madrid, specializing in rail and road transport, among others, for the automotive industry.

Transfesa was founded in 1943 in Badajoz. The goal was his time to the carriage of livestock. From 1949 it carried in its own tropical fruits umspurbaren refrigerated trucks from Spain to Europe. For this purpose, on the border own plants for re-gauging of the Spanish broad gauge were built to European standard gauge. It could be avoided in the transhipment of sensitive fruits. Other transport services between Spain and Europe followed. The activities have been expanded over the years.

The German Railway has bought a majority stake in this responsible, among others, for the Spanish rail freight company in July 2007. The share of just over 50 percent cost the Deutsche Bahn around 130 million euros.

2009 Transfesa was incorporated into the new DB Schenker Rail.
