Transports de Martigny et Régions

The Transports de Martigny et régions, TMR abbreviated, are a transport company in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It operates the Mont- Blanc Express and the Saint -Bernard Express.

Business

The Transports de Martigny et régions created retroactively from 1 January 2000 from the merger of railway companies Martigny- Châtelard (MC ) and the Martigny- Orsières (MO). The railway lines of Martigny- Châtelard Railway and the Martigny- Orsières train differ greatly from each other; are therefore operationally separate, even under the Transports de Martigny et régions and have no common rolling stock because they do not have the same gauge, among other things.

Since 2003, the Transports de Martigny et régions hold a 30 % stake in subsidiary RegionAlps, together with the Swiss Federal Railways ( SBB). Under the RegionAlps operate in Valais commuter trains of the SBB and the standard-gauge trains of the Transports de Martigny et régions respectively the former Martigny- Orsières train.

The company formerly operated a truck freight with their own trucks in the remote villages. Today, the company operates a number of bus routes for tourism and the St- Bernard. The name of this subsidiary is Octodure & Orsières transport.

Railway operation

The network of Transports de Martigny et régions measures added 43.81 kilometers and is divided because of different track gauges in two sub-networks, which are operated by two transport lines.

Mont- Blanc Express

The Martigny- Châtelard -Bahn (MC ), and Mont- Blanc Express, is a narrow gauge railway with rack sections and runs from Martigny via Salvan VS, Marécottes, Finhaut, VERNAYAZ in Trient up to Le Châtelard and was opened in 1906 as an electrified line. Unusually for Switzerland, the power supply is ( now only on sections ) via a separate power rail next to the rails. From Châtelard the route of the French State Railways (SNCF) via Chamonix to Saint- Gervais continues to operate.

Saint -Bernard Express

The Martigny- Orsières -Bahn (MO), also Saint -Bernard Express, is a standard gauge railway from Martigny via Sembrancher to Orsières with a branch line from Sembrancher to Le Chable. The route from Martigny to Orsières was opened in 1910, the branch line to Le Chable was opened in 1953. First, the transport of goods dominated for the construction of a power plant for aluminum production ( never carried out planning of 1856 ). Since the 70 's, tourism is booming with Skizügen.

Rolling stock

Since the two differ railway lines in the Transports de Martigny et régions in the track, there is no common rolling stock. The majority of the active roll material dates from the period prior to the merger to the Transports de Martigny et régions in 2000 and is listed in the relevant articles.

Under the Transports de Martigny et régions were procured as the first new vehicles for railway lines of the former Martigny- Orsières -Bahn, which have now been transferred to the RegionAlps:
