Transposase

Under a transposase means an enzyme which his own DNA coding sequence of the endonuclease function with surrounding areas cut out ( conservative transposition) or replication copy ( replicative transposition) can and can then be integrated back into another DNA region. Transposases bind to the appropriate single-stranded DNA, which must be surrounded by two contrasting more or less identical sequences ( engl. inverted repeats ). Since the transposase thus transferred nucleotides, it is expected to nucleotidyltransferases (EC number 2.7.7 ).

DNA regions that encode a transposase flanked by inverted repeats are (partly they may also contain other genes ), is referred to as a DNA transposon.
