Transtejo & Soflusa

Transtejo & Soflusa, legally speaking only Transtejo SA, is a Portuguese transport companies, the numerous ferry crossings from the Portuguese capital of Lisbon and the Tagus lying on the other side Margem Sul do Tejo operates.

History

After the successful Carnation Revolution in 1974 was a complete nationalization of the Portuguese economy. For this reason, the then Portuguese government decided to unite all existing ferry operators in the Lisbon area into a single, state-owned company. In 1975, the new company Transtejo, E. P. was founded from the former societies Maritima Sociedade de Transportes, Empresa de Transportes Tejo, Sociedade Nacional Motonaves, Sociedade Jerónimo Rodrigues Durão, stove and Sociedade Damasio, Vasques e Santos. In the seventies and eighties, the Transtejo attached particular importance to the modernization of the Fährbestandes and the ferry terminal ( Cais do Sodré, Cacilhas ). 1992 changed the Transtejo their corporate form and joined a public sector company ( empresa pública, abbreviated EP ) to a corporation ( sociedade anónima, SA ).

1993 divided the state railway company Caminhos -de- ferro portugueses, EP its ferry service between Lisbon ferry terminal Terreiro do Paço and the Barreiro station, which was operationally as part of the Linha do Sul, in the new company Soflusa - Sociedade Fluvial de Transportes, SA from. 2001 bought the state Transtejo on the other ferry operators, so today, all ferry services between the two banks of the Tagus are solely operated by the Company Transtejo. To get the part Soflusa popular name, the company designated as effective advertising Transtejo & Soflusa.

Since 1998, the Transtejo led alongside the usual ferry ( in Portuguese also called ferry ) also an additional high-speed catamaran services. Today, the joint venture company operates ferry services between three ferry terminals Lisbon ( Belem, Cais do Sodré, Terreiro do Paço ) and six ferry terminals in the Margem Sul do Tejo ( Trafaria, Porto Brandão, Cacilhas, Seixal, Barreiro and Montijo ).
