Transverse plane
As transverse plane (also axial, horizontal plane or Transaxialebene ) so is called in medicine a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, the people standing a horizontal plane. There are an infinite number of mutually parallel transverse planes.
The level shown in green is a transverse plane. All her parallel planes (ie up or down shifted levels ) are also transverse planes.
A transverse plane divides the body into top and bottom (top to bottom level). In said plane, the movements ( rotations ) are carried out about its longitudinal axis.
In radiology, and especially the tomographic imaging playing transverse sections, so in a transverse plane and captured image data represented an important role. From the tomographic investigation in this plane, the transverse ( or axial ) strata, with which one " slice by slice " from the bottom ( his feet ) considered the patients studied up ( to his head ) result.
