Trasmiras

Trasmiras is a municipality in the Autonomous Community of Galicia in northern Spain. It consists of the nine parroquias Abavides (San Martiño ) Chamosiños (Santa Baia), Escornabois (Santa María ), Lobaces (Santa María ), Trasmiras (San Xoán ), Vila de Rei (San Salvador), Vilar de Lebres (San Salvador ), Vilaseca (San Román ) and Zoya (Santa María ).

Geographical Description

The municipality is located in the influence area of Trasmiras A Limia, in the southern central region of the province of Ourense. This municipality borders the district Xinzo de Limia in the west, to Sarreaus and Xinzo de Limia to the north, Xinzo de Limia and Cualedro in the south and to Cualedro in the East. This area is very uneven and the average height is 740 meters above sea level, as it is between the levels of A Limia and the mountains of Cualedro. The highest points are located in the southern part. Among the rivers, the Faramontaos that separates the municipality from Xinzo, and the river Trasmiras draw from. The climate is mainly oceanic and is determined by the low rainfall ( around 700 mm per year ), the strong temperature contrast ( very cold in winter and very hot in summer ) and noted the frequent frosts.

History

The most significant historical events that took place in this county, were always in connection with the history of the sphere of influence of A Limia. The tribe that originally populated this community, was the Límicos, which was Romanized later. At that time was the area that corresponds to the current municipal area Trasmiras, under the influence of the ' Forum Limicorum '. In the Middle Ages the Parroquia Abavides belonged to the dominion of the Count of Lemos and the rest of the district was owned by the Count of Monterrei.

Attractions

The municipality has no important historical art treasures. In rural Romanesque style are the church of Santa María in Zos and the church of San Salvador in Vilar de Lebres. Another interesting religious building is the chapel, which is located on a hill in the municipality Viladerrei. Also worth mentioning are the San Xoán Church in Trasmiras, the church of Santa Baia in Chamusiños, the church of Santa María in Abavides, and the church of Santa María in Escornabois. But in contrast with the few architectural treasures there are in this district a large natural treasure that has beautiful views.

Activities

Concerning the leisure, the community has good facilities, so visitors and residents of the district are sure to enjoy. The recreational area O Ribeiro has different systems: a camp of four hectares, swimming pools and a sports stadium. But the biggest attraction of the district is the airfield. All of this is located in the municipality Vilaseca. The other recreational area in the municipality lies at location A Pobra as Santa, which is located in Parroquia Trasmiras. But if you're looking for beautiful and excellent prospects, you have to hike on the many trails through the district. So you can see amazing hundred year old oak trees in the area A Ribeira and discover other natural areas and scenic views, like the ones you can see from the hill on which the Sanctuary of Viladerrei stands.
