Treaty of Péronne (1468)

The Peace of Peronne on October 14, 1468 was a treaty between the French king Louis XI. and the Burgundian duke Charles the Bold.

On October 9, 1468, Louis XI met. and Charles the Bold in Peronne on the Somme, after it was closed on September 10, the peace of Ancenis through which the relations between the king, his brother Charles, the Duke Francis II of Brittany and the English had been restored for the time being.

In Peronne was now to achieve a similar agreement with Charles the Bold, who felt betrayed by his former allies. The place belonged to the Duke, who assured the king safe conduct.

On October 11, came news of a riot in Liège, of which one knew he was. Ludwig XI was supported. Then the duke took the king prisoner. A war in mind, Karl Ludwig was against the promise, however, again free to enter into a contract that out sparked the French Flanders ( Ghent, Ypres, Bruges and the Franc de Bruges, the surroundings of the city) from the jurisdiction of the Parliaments', so that the sovereignty of the king ended here in fact, the independence of Burgundy, however, increased. In addition, Louis XI was. forced to accompany Charles the Bold for the punishment of Liège. Ludwig's brother Charles received the Champagne and Brie and the following year in exchange, however, the Guyenne.
