Treaty of Taipei

The Sino - Japanese Peace Treaty (Chinese中华民国 与 日本国 间 和平 条约, Pinyin Zhōnghuá Mínguó yù Rìbĕnguó jiàn Heping tiáoyuē; japanese日本国 と 中華民国 と の 間 の 平和 条約, Nihon - koku to Chuka - mingoku to no aida no heiwa jōyaku ), also known as the Treaty of Taipei, was closed on April 28, 1952 between Japan and the Republic of China.

Prehistory

The agreement was necessary because the signatories of the Treaty of San Francisco could not agree whether the People's Republic of China or the Republic of China on Taiwan were considered legitimate successor of the Republic of China. Due to pressure from the U.S. Japan was forced to conclude a separate peace treaty with the Republic of China Chiang Kai- shek, even at the state of war officially quit.

Content

In the contract, which is similar to the Treaty of San Francisco in the wording and provisions, Japan renounced all claims of ownership with regard to Taiwan, the Spratly Islands, the Pescadores and the Paracel Islands. In return, the Republic of China has waived any reparations to Japan. In addition, all contracts prior to November 12, 1941 entered into between China and Japan, including the Treaty of Shimonoseki were declared invalid.
