Tremp
Tremp is a Catalan city in the province of Lleida, in northeastern Spain. It is the capital of the Pallars Jussà.
Geographical location
The city is located about 65 kilometers north of Lleida on the river Noguera Pallaresa.
History
Tremp developed around the Abbey of Santa Maria of the 9th century. 1884 Tremp received city rights.
After the incorporation of the formerly independent places Sapeira (1970), Espluga de Serra (1970), Gurp de la Conca (1970), Fígols de la Conca (1970), Vilamitjana (1972 ), Palau (1972) and Suterranya (1973 ) is Tremp today at 304 km ², the municipality with the largest area of Catalonia.
Patron saint of the city is the Santa depicted in the coat of arms of Maria de Valldeflors.
