Tresor

The vault in Berlin is one of the most famous techno clubs. Since opening in 1991 in the Leipziger Strasse 126-128 in Berlin many DJs have launched and started to part her career here in the vault. With the events and the in-house record label Tresor Records the club had influence on the development of the techno scene in Germany and Europe. The demolition of the vault with the rest of the building of the former Wertheim department store was the end of May 2005.

History

In early 1991 discovered the makers of the West Berlin Acidhouseclubs Ufo looking for a location for a techno club, built in 1926 the vault of the former Wertheim department store, near the Leipziger Platz. The vault opened three months later in March 1991 as the first techno club in Berlin. Its rustic, decoration -free facility in the former vault of the department store on Leipziger Strasse, with hundreds of broken lockers, as well as the hard, mechanical music, found favor in Berlin. The vault was internationally famous and the epitome of a typical techno clubs.

During the Love Parade, the event " Safe Park" with Sven Väth took place. By Dimitri Hegemann - - In September 1991, the same record label Tresor Records was launched.

The main resident DJs have included Tanith, Jonzon, Rok, Roland 138 BPM, Terrible, DJ Clé, Mitja Prinz, Wolle XDP, Dash, Dry, Wimpy, Zky and Djoker Daan. The vault was a platform for the international techno movement. Especially often played DJs and live acts from Detroit such as Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins, Blake Baxter, Robert Hood, Kevin Saunderson, DJ Rolando and Kenny Larkin in the vault. This developed into the lower floor, the actual vault (also the chamber ), the typical safe sound with very strong influences of Detroit techno. Other international acts contributed to the formative sound. These included in particular Cristian Vogel, Joey Beltram, Neil Landstrumm and Dave Tarrida.

Mid-1990s there were plans to build a vault in West Ruhr area, but this was the part of the CDU prevented.

Repeats stood the vault club before closing time, and a lot of rumors were circulating. The terrain in the vicinity of Potsdamer Platz had been cleared in GDR times near the wall, but was after the turn again attractive for development. So were the club owners from the beginning only very short-term contracts. The last party in the old vault was held on 16 April 2005. The operator initially planned to let move the entire vault to another location and reopen there. This idea was not realized. The demolition of the vault was performed with the remaining buildings of the former Wertheim department store in late May 2005. Then came on the premises of an office building.

As of July 2005 Tresor parties took place under the slogan " Safe in exile " in the premises of the Maria am Ostbahnhof or in SO36 instead.

Structure of the club

The club had several rooms. On the ground floor there was a large oblong floor, called globe. There usually house orientated music was played. The light installation seemed very warm and discounted typical. The ground floor is also the Aurora Bar was a small room with its own bar, it was there own DJs sonicated the room.

The lower level was reached from the globe on an old rustic wooden staircase. Below was a flat vaulted cellar in which was a long-drawn narrow room with a long bar. In the walls on both sides were still the old lockers Wertheim department store. From the stairs to the right the vault ended in the actual vault, which was separated from the bar by a steel mesh door. The musical style here was a totally separate with very strong influences from Detroit techno. Often Gabberveranstaltungen there took place. The light installation here was minimal and bleak acting: there was only strobes and a blue light. To this end, a lot of fog was used.

Opposite from the vault, the bar ended at another staircase that led to the outside. There the Tuna Garden, a small garden with lots of plants was, trees and seating. The area was lit and offered in the summer place for a chill out zone, or other place for music of DJs and live acts. The Tuna Garden is also reached from the ground floor. In winter, the garden and the stairs were closed.

In mid-2001, the globe was enlarged and remodeled. It also video installations have been added. Known decorations were, inter alia, the huge plasma lamp in the entrance of the globe, the old dungeons like grille doors and lockers broken down in the vault as well as the wooden stage in the world, after which either live acts played or danced.
