Trhová Kamenice

Trhová Kamenice ( German market Kamnitz ) is a market town in Okres Chrudim, Czech Republic. December 31, 2008 870 inhabitants lived here.

Geography

Trhová Kamenice is located on an ancient ford on the river Chrudimka in the Bohemian- Moravian Highlands, on the border between the Iron Mountains and the Saarer mountains. The town of Chrudim is located about 20 kilometers north. Neighboring towns are Kameničky in the West, Možděnice, Dřevíkov and Svobodné Hamry in the south and the east Petrkov. Through the village passes the road No 37, which connects the cities of Chrudim District and Zdar nad Sázavou.

History

The oldest mention of this place can be found on a deed of 1242. The settlement was probably founded by the Benedictine monastery in the near Vilémov. In the Middle Ages it was a stronghold, and also the church of St. Philip and Jacob is mentioned in the 14th century. At the end of the 14th century began the iron smelting in the area. The surrounding forests were cleared for the production of charcoal and created settlements for forest workers. 1499 Trhová Kamenice is mentioned as a town with its own coat of arms, the market was right for at least 1460th In the 16th century originated in the area on noble reason sawmills, breweries, mills and ponds.

After the decline of the Thirty Years War the Imperial captain Francois de Couriers acquired the town, from the end of the 17th century the semi- abandoned village was rebuilt. In the mid-19th century, there were 854 people. 1853 Trhová Kamenice received city rights. In the late 19th and early 20th century, the local industry with stone and semi-precious stone quarries, glass manufacturing and textile industry. The companies were nationalized in 1948 and liquidated in part. In 2006 Trhová Kamenice received the status of Městys.
