Trillium (Vertigo)

Trillium (Eng. Forest lily) is an eight-part American comic book series by Canadian author and illustrator Jeff Lemire, which is published by Vertigo since August 2013. The story is about the scientist Nika Temsmith, from the year 3797 and the English explorer William Pike, of an expedition through the Peruvian rainforest performs 1921. While Temsmith tries to save humanity is Pike in search of a lost temple of the Incas, who is said to have magical powers.

In 2010, Jeff Lemire, the idea for an Adam Strange comic miniseries had. Here, Adam and Alanna Strange should travel between the Earth and the planet Rann uncontrollably back and forth. When nothing came of this project, Lemire took up the basic idea of the story and developed Trillium. Jeff Lemire worked from January to April 2013, the first edition of the series, due to research for the period around 1920 and the conception of the world of the future. The figure of Nika Temsmith created Lemire to challenge themselves, as he previously had only male main characters in his stories. The future act was itself colored by Jeff Lemire with watercolors while José Villarrubia action 1921 colored digitally. In future issues of both styles to overlap to clarify the relationship of both "worlds".

The first edition was designed as a turning point ( flipbook ). Nika Temsmiths and William Pikes storylines converge from both sides of the issue and meet in the middle. Each side has exactly the same number of fields, such as her counterpart at the other end of the booklet.

Reviews

The first edition, which was published in August 2013, received positive reviews. Sean Edgar from paste magazine praised Jeff Lemire for the book and described it as the best work that he has written since Sweet Tooth: " this is a piece of an artist, brought out from a dark place that nobody has ever seen. And since Lemire shares this, we can only say thank you. " Zac Thompson from the website Bloody Disgusting called the book a must-buy. Trillium change the way we read comics, tell stories and experience figures.
