Trincheras

Trincheras is a village in the Mexican state of Sonora with 1,166 inhabitants ( 2010). The village is situated in the northwest of Sonora between Santa Ana, Benjamín Hill and the altar. Trincheras is the seat of the homonymous municipality Trincheras.

Trincheras is known among other things for the cultivation of amaranth.

History

Trincheras dates from the early 20th century as a settlement for prospectors. On April 28, 1916, received the rights of a community. In the years 1930-1934 it belonged to the neighboring Pitiquito.

Population

The population, which was in 1980 over 2000, now occupies continuously. Today, 62 % of the population in the primary sector are active, 13 % in secondary and 24% in the tertiary sector.

Infrastructure

The town has nine schools with 424 students ( 2001). 90 percent of the population is connected to the electricity grid.
