Tristania (band)

Tristania is a Norwegian symphonic metal / gothic metal band.

History

The band was founded in 1996 by Einar Moen, Kenneth Olsson and the former and current vocalist of Sirenia, Morten Veland. Moen and Veland left the band Uzi Suicide Olsson and brought to her new band, Tristania join. Shortly after, bassist Rune Østerhus and guitarist Anders H. Hidle were taken.

In May 1997, Tristania first entered a studio and recorded a demo shortly thereafter. In the meantime, Vibeke Stene was added as a session musician. Since her vocal performance on all remaining musicians triggered a very positive response, they became an integral part of the band.

In the summer of 1997, the demo was sent to various record label Napalm Records and made ​​them the best deal. Tristanias first release, an MCD with the name Tristania, consisted of this demo with a new mix and artwork.

Towards the end of 2000 left Morten Veland Tristania due to personal and musical differences the band and later founded Sirenia, which clearly tie musically to the first two Tristania albums.

On the third album World of Glass, the voice of the singer Vibeke Stene was put to the fore. In addition, everything sounds richer, since enhanced choruses and elements of classical music were used. For many fans began with this album, the descent of the band. Focusing on Vibeke Stene, the departure of Morten Veland and the drastic change in style meant for many a break and the realignment of the band was considered by many to be too catchy and commercial.

In February 2007, Vibeke Stene left the band for personal reasons. On 18 October 2007 the identity of the new singer was announced on the official website Tristania. Tristania found a new voice in the 25 -year-old Mariangela "Mary" Demurtas, a trained linguist ended from Sardinia (Italy).

In February 2009, the band split in agreement by bassist Rune Osterhus because it could not muster the required time for Tristania. The position was replaced by Ole Vistnes, who helped out earlier in the band.

On August 25, 2010, the sixth studio album Rubicon, on which the new Italian singer Mariangela Demurtas was first heard appeared. Despite many changes within the band and increasing discontent of the fans, the album was a success. In addition, it reached good reviews on leading metal magazines.
