Trondhjems mekaniske Værksted

Trondheim Mekaniske Verksted, short TMV (translated "mechanical workshop Trondheim " ), was a shipyard in Trondheim in Norway.

The shipyard was established in 1872 as a merger of smaller shipyards and shipbuilding companies at the mouth of Nidelva. Only four years later, the yard was already back in bankruptcy, but could be continued after a change of ownership. From now on, the shipyard had a very strong growth. Around the turn of the century they had four docks and employed over 700 men. Thus, they had risen among the ten largest industrial companies in the country. Modern steam vessels for coastal shipping and fishing industries were built. Also, some units of the Hurtigruten created here.

In 1960, the Norwegian Aker Group acquired the majority of shares and led the shipyard to the suspension of operations in 1983 as an independent subsidiary on. After the end of the yard, the area for a long time lay idle on the shores of Nidelv. In the 1990s, they began to build a shopping center there next to offices and homes; it arose as the new district Nedre Elvehavn. For this purpose, many of the former, now a listed building shipyard buildings were used.
